Alternative-fueled and hybrid car sales rose dramatically in 2005 due to increasing gas prices and a growing awareness of the environment. In addition to eco-friendly fuels, car companies also introduced various car safety features. Volvo introduced a feature that alerts drivers when they begin to fall asleep at the wheel. Volvo also created safety features that discourage drunk driving – the driver must take a built-in breathalyzer test that if failed, will not allow the driver to start the car.
