Researchers at Rice University and the University of Southern California discover a form of bacteria that feeds on metal and spits out electrons to make new kinds of power supply. So, in the future we can buy “living battery” and use it at our gadgets. It is wired and I’m afraid for my health if a battery like this will broke or explode!

The idea is to use the bacteria as a kind of biological anode, to produce enough electrons to power a circuit. It’ll take time to harness this microscopic metabolic reaction to make a viable battery but the researchers have just received a $4.4 million grant from the Department of Defense for the project.
