We turned the internet upside down, looking for a reliable web hosting. The comments or blogs doesn’t help us too much to taka a decision so we stop to a web hosting guide. Here we spend good time on WebHostingRating website to read about Top 10 Web Hosting Providers or even about Best Blog Hosting.
When you click on each those categories (Linux (Unix) Hosting, Windows Hosting, Reseller Hosting, VPS Hosting, Dedicated Hosting, Colocation Hosting, Managed Hosting, and so on) a nice top will show up in front of your eyes.

Let’s presume that you have an online shop and you are looking for an ecommerce hosting solution. Where are you starting to search? Type google dot com, write in the little google’s box “ecommerce hosting solution” and hit “search”? Nice try but you will end few hours later with headache and be more confuse then at beginning.

No my friend! The right way, and easy way in the same time, is to go to a reliable web hosting guide website and learn which the best solution is for you. You will save the time and you will be ready to take a good decision.

For example in our simulation to find the best solution for an ecommerce hosting we go to WebHostingRating and choose the Best Ecommerce Hosting from the right sidebar. That it! You have now on your display the number one in this category. You can see all details about this web hosting provider and the customers review. Usually there are happy customers for the winners of each category but we recommend reading all.

And please don’t forget: if you are on the WebHostingRating website and you have some experience (good or bad) about a website hosting provider spend few minutes from your life and let your opinion. In this way you are helping others to make the best choice.

I remember 2 years ago when I was looking for a new web hosting for my main website. All my website was hosted on Dreamhost. I was pretty happy with them but I feel like I must make an upgrade because my traffic goes up like crazy. So I start right away the searching for a reliable hosting for may new needs. In those days it is very difficult to find the true about hosting. There are so many affiliate websites and fake comments in the wild Internet so you should search for an answer to good hosting reviews website.

When someone ask me about a shared hosting usually I know what to say, but if my friend has some particular needs like vps hosting I go to my bookmarked web hosting review and learn what is the best choice for him. There are so many web hosting providers for VPS or even dedicated server, so an independent web hosting reviewer is one of the best solutions.

One of the best independent web hosting reviewers is Web Hosting Geeks. This website is made to help you to find a Web Hosting Company no matter what your budget is and for what are you looking for. Web Hosting Geeks idea is good: users can compare web hosting by rating for Top 10 Web Hosting, Multiple Domain Hosting, Green Web Hosting, VPS Web Hosting or Dedicated Server Hosting.

Web Hosting Geeks doesn’t stop only to recommend hosting. They have a lot of articles published about hosting, from beginner to advanced users. I found there some interesting articles and spend hours to read them.

Next visit: Web Hosting Geeks blog. Here I find a pleasant surprise: the blog is daily updated with articles about Web Hosting. Nice work!

My conclusion: If you are searching for a hosting company don’t forget to pay a visit to Web Hosting Geeks first. You will find a great help there.

Research into which countries host the most infected web pages shows some interesting changes since the 2007 Sophos Security Threat Report. The United States in particular has experienced unprecedented growth, from hosting less than 25 percent of all infected pages overall in 2007, to almost half in the first three months of 2008.

China has demonstrated the biggest drop, from hosting more than half of all the infected pages seen by Sophos in 2007, to just under a third in the first quarter of 2008. Elsewhere in the chart, newcomer Thailand was responsible for hosting 1 percent of all malware infected web pages, while the UK hosted 1.1 percent, down from 3 percent in the same period last year.

“The U.S. and China are no strangers to this chart, with the two countries long holding the top two spots in this hall of shame,” notes Mark Harris, global director of SophosLabs. “However, the bottom half of the chart remains fluid, indicating that users need to remain vigilant.”

Hacked Sites Pose Greatest Risk To IT Security

From January to the end of March 2008, Sophos identified an average of more than 15,000 newly infected web pages each day. Most worrying for computer users, is the fact that the majority of these poisoned sites – 79 percent – are found on legitimate websites that have been hacked. February saw the website of UK broadcaster ITV fall victim to a poisoned web advert campaign which targeted both Windows and Mac users, while in March a Euro 2008 football ticket website was hacked by cybercriminals in an attempt to infect unwary fans. In contrast, just one in every 2500 emails is now infected, compared to one in every 909 in 2007.

The top ten malware found on the web in Q1 2008:

The top two web threats, Mal/Iframe and Mal/ObfJS, which are together responsible for more than half of all the online malware found by SophosLabs, are programmed by cybercriminals to infect websites by taking advantage of vulnerabilities. Sophos experts warn that companies can protect their network by investing in web security that scans a webpage for malware before granting access, while companies need to ensure that their web servers are protected against hack attacks.

“About 1 percent of web requests now deliver an infected page, most of which are legitimate websites belonging to people just trying to earn a living,” says Harris.

Data Leaks Continue To Cause Embarrassment

Data leakage continues to be a major concern for organizations, with several high profile cases of businesses losing sensitive customer information reported during the first three months of 2008. In March, the largest reported data breach this year involved the credit card numbers of more than four million customers being stolen from U.S. supermarket chain Hannaford Bros. The credit card details, taken by cybercriminals using malware installed on servers at the chain’s branches, have already been used in approximately 1800 fraud cases.

These incidents cause embarrassment to businesses and government agencies and are a concern for all consumers. Sophos experts warn that cybercriminals are now more experienced and better resourced in the delivery of sophisticated attacks.

As well as ensuring payment card industry (PCI) guideline compliance, Sophos reminds businesses to consider employing further measures to make their computer systems as secure and unattractive a target for hackers as possible. “Several PCI compliant companies, including Hannaford’s, have fallen foul of enterprising cybercriminals in recent months,” adds Harris. “With more comprehensive solutions in place, businesses can make their data unappetizing to greedy hackers who are only after a free lunch.”

John Sewell is launching a one-man campaign to ensure a corner of the internet remains forever English.

He is lobbying web chiefs to allow people, organisations or companies to display their Englishness online in the new domain name ending .eng John, of Maidenhead, Surrey, discovered there was no ‘dot eng’ movement, despite established campaigns by the Scots (for .sco) and the Welsh (for .cym). So he set up his own online petition at www.doteng.org – and will deliver the signatures to ICANN, the non-profit outfit which oversees domain name
endings.

Father-of-five John, 47, said :	“It’s typical of our character that there isn’t a big hoo-ha about having an English domain suffix. “We don’t like to make a fuss as a nation. There’s a lot to celebrate but so often we do ourselves down. “There’s nothing whatsoever political about this. I’m not a devotee of any political party. “I suppose if it’s ‘about’ anything, for me it’s about remembering what’s great about England – tea, the Beatles, London, the Queen, beer, cricket.

“I was very ill recently and had to undergo a lot of hospital treatment. I didn’t know what to expect and I was very frightened. “But the treatment I received on the NHS was nothing short of magnificent.
And it made me realise that you don’t often hear about it when things go well. “I think it would be nice to have a .eng available for people who want to let the world know via their domain that they’re English and proud of it.” Namesco an award winning domain and hosting provider within the UK have
offered industry knowledge and advice with regards to the campaign.

A spokesman for ICANN said John probably won’t even be able to start the application process until next year. He said: “The applications for all these extensions would come to us. “Right now there is no way to apply for a domain suffix. ICANN is currently designing the policies and procedures for applications and approvals. The goal is for applications to open in early 2009.”

Are you looking for 3G package? Before you go to sign up for a mobile broadband package with a provider, you should compare their offers and technologies. The known way: visit providers website, call them or visit them.

But I must tell you that is not easy and it is time consuming. You need to see all offers in one place. So, I search for you and I found broadbandgenie UK website.

Here you can easily choose a good mobile 3G broadband package.

They display presentation for Vodafone, T-Mobile, 3 Mobile, Orange, O2, Virgin Mobile and Carphone Warehouse. Also, on first page they present the best mobile broadband packages with details like: Setup fee, monthly cost, extra costs, max speed, download limit and their advice for the package.
I find very useful the page with mobile broadband help. Here I can find what pay-as-you-go mobile broadband tariffs is or rumors about why Vodafone has been trialing the femtocell technology.

If you don’t know too much about mobile broadband you can learn from their Mobile Broadband Beginners Guide, an excellent starting point.

If you already have a mobile broadband subscription maybe you want to give it a test. On the same website you can test it and find some useful stuff about your broadband connectivity.

You have something to sell or you want to buy something? Auctions websites are so many but only few offer right and trusted services.

Recently I just discover eBid . It operates in 14 countries: USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Deutschland, Nederland, Spain, France, Italia, New Zealand, India, Singapore and South Africa.

eBid website’s layout is clean and the interface is easy to use. The good news is that the registration is free. There are 3 levels of users: Buyer, Seller and Seller+.
To be Buyer is easy. Go to registration page, fill the form and that’s all! If you want to list some stuff and sell you need to go to Seller level. The upgrade is free but card validation is required (Auction Final Value Fee: 3%)

The ultimate user level is Seller+. A lot of options become available when you upgrade to this level: Option of Zero Final Value Fee, Thumbnail Image in Listings, BuyNow Price Available, Auto Extend Available, Cross Promotions, Access to Bulk Uploader, Customer Invoicing System, Grouping Multiple Auctions, Integrated PayPal Checkout for their Buyers, Integrated Google Checkout for their Buyers, BuyNow Only (Fixed Price) Format, Run Until Sold (Store Inventory), Free Multiple eBid Stores, Scheduled Starting Times, Scheduled Closing Times, Video Descriptions.

For Seller+ you must purchasing a Security Subscription (7 Day $1.99,30 Day $6.99,90 Day $16.99, 365 Day $59.99, Lifetime $49.99)

Three payment option that are integrated with eBid: PPPay, PayPal and Google Checkout. But seller and buyer can contact each other and arrange delivery and payment for the item. Anyway for the security reason I strongly recommend you to use one of the eBid integrated payment option

And don’t forget about Buddy Points, eBid’s Loyalty Card system. Buddy Points are earned by referring friends or by various actions on website (like Receiving Positive Feedback). The Buddy Points are used to bid on a special Buddy Auctions with items like Plasma TVs and MP3 Players.

I wish you happy eBid Online Auctions!

Microsoft today announced the public availability of Microsoft Office Live Workspace beta, the new Web-based extension of Microsoft Office that lets people access their documents online and share their work with others. Also Microsoft launching a $100,000 sweepstakes for U.S.-based Office Live Workspace users

Office Live Workspace is now available worldwide in English. People can sign up for free and will be granted immediate access to the service. Microsoft is also unveiling a number of new Office Live Workspace features, such as an activity panel, notifications, direct links and multifile upload.

Office Live Workspace lets people organize documents and projects online and work on them from almost any computer. People can save more than 1,000 Microsoft Office documents to one place online, and access and share them via the Web. They can view and comment on documents in the browser as well as create simple Web lists and Web notes, and share documents in real time through integration with Microsoft SharedView.

Microsoft has also added several new features to Office Live Workspace, based in part on feedback from early beta participants:

Activity panel. A new activity panel shows all the activity in a workspace at a glance.
Notifications. People can now receive e-mail notifications about changes made to their workspaces or documents.
Direct links. People can now bookmark their workspace or a workspace item via a unique URL in a browser window.
Multi-file upload. People can now upload several files simultaneously by simply dragging and dropping from their desktop.
Improved sharing. New sharing functionality includes an easier user interface and auto-completion of e-mail addresses.

Office Live Workspace also represents a critical collaboration component of the Microsoft Live@edu initiative. In addition to Office Live Workspace, the Live@edu program offers students and alumni 5 GB e-mail inboxes, 5 GB of password-protected online storage space, shared calendars, blogging tools, and access to these services on a mobile phone, all at no costs to the schools or students. The collaboration opportunity afforded by Office Live Workspace is important to allowing students and faculty to work together online. Today, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside is rolling out Office Live Workspace campuswide to its 16,000 active, continuing education and incoming students, plus alumni and more than 700 faculty members and administrators, as part of a broader Live@edu initiative. Since Microsoft Live@edu launched in March 2005, more than 600 schools in 40 countries have chosen the Live@edu suite. More information about Microsoft Live@edu can be found at .

Today Microsoft is also launching a $100,000 sweepstakes for U.S.-based Office Live Workspace users. The sweepstakes will award more than 30,000 prizes, including $100,000 that the winner could use to fund a college education, a new business or favorite charity — the choice is up to the individual. The sweepstakes will run through May 11, 2008, and the winner will be selected around May 15, 2008. Microsoft will award a grand prize of $100,000 and an assortment of more than 30,000 daily and weekly prizes to include Xbox 360 Elite Video Game Systems, Samsung Blackjack II Smartphone devices, 30GB Zune players, Expedia hotel and package coupons and Microsoft Office Professional 2007. Participants may enter for a chance to win by registering for Office Live Workspace. Participants can also earn up to two bonus entries to increase their chances of winning when they upload their first document to their Office Live Workspace account and the first time they share a document or workspace with others.

We love Internet. Our parents love Internet. Our children love the Internet. But some Internet content is not safe for our kids and it is so difficult to control the web surfing. Of course there are a lot of proxies which can block the access to certain website. But it is impossible to block all inappropriate content by a proxy. For this we need powerful software like Integard by Race River Corporation.

Integard works like an Internet content filter to help parents protect children from inappropriate content on the internet. Integard can blocks web pages with content not suitable for children, monitors chat to protect against predators and cyber bullying and supports multiple user profiles. Integard provides the Internet Protection for families, employers, and employees but unfortunately it works only in Windows. For Linux you should look for other solutions. Integard comes with a comprehensive database of websites and keywords that is continuously updated.

You don’t know if Integard can help you? Just download and install the trial version and test it for 14 days (it is fully functional). After 14 days when the trial period has ended, you can purchase a license or uninstal it.

The good news is that Integard can be installed on up to 3 computers per household.

New features in Integard V1.5 BETA

User level allowed and blocked lists

Customisable blocked page

Supports SMTP Authentication

MySpace chat monitoring

External Whitelist support

Anti-Time-tampering mechanism

Remote time extensions

BitDefender antivirus analysts detected a new trojan, which hijacks Google text advertisements, replacing them with ads from a different provider. The threat, which is identified by BitDefender as Trojan.Qhost.WU, modifies the infected computers’ Hosts file (a local storage for domain name / IP address mappings, which is consulted before domain name servers and is considered authoritative). The modified file contains a line redirecting the host
“page2.googlesyndication.com” which should point to an IP of the form 6x.xxx.xxx.xxx to a different address, of the form 9x.xxx.xxx.xxx, so that the infected machines’ browsers read ads from server at the replacement address rather than from Google. “This damages both users (because the advertisements and/or the linked sites may contain malicious code – a very likely situation, given that they are promoted using malware in the first place) and webmasters (because it takes away viewers and thus a possible money source from their websites)” declared virus analyst Attila-Mihaly Balazs for BitDefender.

Do you like to see banners on the Internet? No? Till now you was happy with your free ads mobile surfing? Not any more…

DoubleClick today announced the launch of DoubleClick Mobile, a new solution for media companies to extend their digital advertising business to mobile. The solution integrates the operational processes for scheduling, targeting, selecting and delivering ads on mobile web pages with that of existing digital channels. As a result, media companies can now use DoubleClick’s publisher solutions to sell and manage inventory across online display, rich media, video and mobile.

DoubleClick enters the market with a solution that meets mobile-specific needs including:

Automatic ad selection matches mobile ads to the screen size and capabilities of each device, ensuring that the ad with the best fit is delivered

New mobile ad formats bring combination ads, road blocked ads and jump pages to mobile devices

Third party impression tracking provides agencies access to performance data within their own analytics systems

Device preview enables viewing ads on virtual handsets before the ad goes live

Powerful handset capability targeting to serve ads to devices with specific capabilities

“Publishers are starting to see mobile as an exciting revenue growth area as budgets move from experimental to mainstream. Our clients want to take on this opportunity and sell mobile display advertising directly,” said Ari Paparo, DoubleClick’s vice president of rich media and emerging technologies. “As media companies begin to offer integrated digital ad packages to advertisers that include online display, rich media, video and mobile, everyone wins. The launch of DoubleClick Mobile marks an important step in bringing mobile into the mainstream digital advertising ecosystem.”

ESET announced today that Ani.Gen’s ‘drive-by’ attacks continued during May, placing the trojan in the number one spot of all threats detected for the second month in a row. Constituting 4.6% of all malware activity during May, the trojan exploits how Windows handles animated cursor (.ani) files and requires no action on the user’s part to become infected other than to visit or view an affected website or email.

“The problem is that even legitimate web sites present a potential danger to the most fastidious of computer users,” says Paul Brook, Managing Director of ESET UK. “The exploit can allow an attacker to take control of the machine completely just by visiting a site or viewing an email that has been exploited. The fact that it is still so prevalent indicates that a lot of servers and machines haven’t been cleaned or patched. The best advice to users is, keep your AV software up-to-date.”

Second in the ranking for May is Win32/Perlovga, a trojan that has increased its presence steadily during the year. The threat can be transmitted through email, FTP or P2P applications and is used to collect sensitive information from infected computers. In third place is Win32/Spy.VBStat.J, a spyware program that monitors activity on infected PCs and displays popup ads. Down from first place in March, Win32/PSW.Agent.NCC was fourth in May with around 1.69 % of detections. This trojan is part of a family of Trojans that are used to steal passwords through keylogging techniques. The fifth place on the ranking for May is held by Win32/Rjump.A, a worm that includes a backdoor trojan component. Rjump.a propagates through external storage devices, such as portable hard drives, memory cards, pen drives, etc.

Top 10 Threats for May 2007
1 Win32/TrojanDownloader.Ani.Gen – 4.6%
2 Win32/Perlovga – 1.92%
3 Win32/Spy.VBStat.J – 1.79%
4 Win32/PSW.Agent.NCC – 1.69%
5 Win32/Rjump.A – 1.69%
6 Win32?Pacex.Gen – 1.58%
7 Win32/Adware.Virtumonde – 1.50%
8 Win32/Netsky.Q Win32/Nuwar.gen – 1.18%
9 Win32/PSW.QQRob– 1.32%
10 TrojanDownloader.Agent.AWF – 0.95%

BitDefender issued a warning today that an attacker has added an instruction to download an executable to a bit of previously innocuous Java Script which handles font resizing – one which exists in every public-facing page of the TCSDaily news website.

The number of systems exposed to the attack suddenly spiked when a post linking to an article hosted on the compromised TCSDaily website appeared on the social news aggregator site Reddit.

The malicious Java Script makes the user’s browser download and execute a Trojan. Downloader.Small.BIB – which is hosted on a Chinese website, which is probably also compromised.

“It’s a pretty simple piece of malware, but it’s obfuscated, so most antivirus programs could not detect it,” said Marius Tivadar, BitDefender antivirus researcher. “A drive-by download is like that – one often gets infected at first with something that is nearly innocuous and really stealthy, the kind of thing antivirus software is most likely to just ignore, but once your system is infected, all bets are off.”

The Trojan downloader itself downloads, from the same Chinese website, four other bits of malware, namely a backdoor, a bit of adware, a password stealer and another Trojan, by the names of, respectively Backdoor.Poisonivy.M, Adware.Bho.WOX, Trojan.Pws.OnlineGames.AUD and Trojan.Agent.ADL.

Trojan.Agent.ADL also downloads yet more malware from yet another website.

“We were hot on the trail and finding new malware everywhere as the analysis proceeded,” BitDefender antivirus researcher Mihai Calota, who had been tasked with charting out the threat. “It’s like diving into caves – there’s always this new nook which turns out to be a passage to a new room.”
