The new ASUS N Series is designed for audiophiles who desire multimedia entertainment while on-the-move. Powered by the new Intel® Core™ i3, i5 and i7 processors, the ASUS N Series is equipped with USB 3.0 connectivity capable of multimedia transfer rates of up to 5GB per second—up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0′s 480MB per second rate. USB 3.0 also features an interrupt mechanism which provides additional power savings compared to the polling method of USB 2.0. With 900mA support for high-power devices, USB 3.0 also shortens the charging duration significantly for USB-chargeable devices compared to the 500mA of USB 2.0.

Another highlight of the new ASUS N Series is SonicMaster audio technology. Developed by the highly-trained audio experts in the ASUS’ Research and Development team, SonicMaster audio technology fine-tunes noise balance, volume and dynamic sound ranges, while minimizing environmental interference and sound distortion along with enhanced sound separation. These solutions combine to provide users with greatly improved audio quality that brings multimedia events to life on their Notebooks.

Finally, the ASUS N Series features Video Magic software which boosts the resolution of conventional DVDs up to full high definition 1080p from the standard 480p, as well as naturalizing the color and brightness of the images displayed.

The IdeaPad U1 is industry’s first hybrid PC for consumers.

The IdeaPad U1’s unique design is engineered to provide consumers with two PCs in one device – each with its own processor and operating system – that work together and independently as either a clamshell laptop or a multitouch slate tablet.

The IdeaPad U1’s fashionable scarlet red exterior has a footprint just smaller than a piece of notebook paper and is paired with an equally impressive 3.8 pound thin and light design. With its unique detach-and-converge design, users can easily remove the screen to instantly switch from clamshell mode into a multitouch slate tablet. When the IdeaPad U1 is in its traditional clamshell form, the system boasts an 11.6 inch HD LED screen and runs Windows 7. When the 1.6 pound, multitouch screen is removed, it becomes an independent slate tablet with a powerful ARM processor, running Lenovo’s customized Skylight operating system.

Leveraging the benefits of both CPU, the two devices can synchronize to work as one with the ability to share battery power, 3G wireless, data and documents. In this way, the base laptop system can serve as a hub and docking station and the slate tablet as a mobile device. The two PCs have been engineered to work together and independently through Lenovo’s Hybrid Switch technology that enables seamless toggling between the two processors. For instance, users can surf the Web in laptop mode and then continue from the same point without interruption if they detach to tablet mode.

Lenovo’s hybrid notebook also features a customized “Me” centric tablet interface for comfortable landscape and portrait viewing. Users can switch between a six-section display and a four section display. U1’s six-section screen display is designed to enhance the mobile internet experience by letting users easily multitouch access multiple Web-based applications at once such as email, calendars, RSS readers and social networking Web sites. The four-section screen display option is perfect as a media center on the PC such as photos, music, videos and to view/edit documents.

The IdeaPad U1’s laptop and tablet modes each support more than five hours of 3G Web browsing and 60 hours of 3G standby. In addition, the U1 comes with integrated video camera and two stereo speakers with integrated microphone with echo cancellation make this the ideal PC for users who need flexibility but do not want to compromise features or functionality.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook will be available June 1, 2010, with an estimated retail price of $999.1

Lenovo today introduced four new notebooks with more choices of color, including Valencia orange, Indigo blue, Bold black and Crimson red.

The announcement brings two new notebook form factors – the 13-inch widescreen IdeaPad U330 and the 14-inch widescreen IdeaPad Y430 – to the IdeaPad line. Additionally, the new IdeaPad Y530 and Y730 notebooks round out Lenovo’s expanded consumer notebook portfolio. All of the notebooks are based on the latest Intel Centrino 2 processor technology.

IdeaPad U330

Lenovo designed its “U” series to be all about expressing ideas with style. The IdeaPad U330 notebook is a super-slim, ultra-light addition to the widely-acclaimed IdeaPad U110 notebook, introduced in the spring. Available in a glossy Indigo blue and Bold black, the notebook starts at 0.9 inches thin and weighs just over four pounds. Equipped with the latest version of VeriFace™ facial recognition technology, consumers can now access encrypted files and record a 30-second video message for other users. Designed with Dolby® Home Theatre and touch-sensitive multimedia controls, the notebook comes equipped with HDMI and an optional built-in DVD burner.

The IdeaPad U330 notebook also includes switchable graphics. This enables the user to run energy efficient integrated graphics while on battery power and then switch to discrete graphics for more powerful performance when “plugged in.” The notebook also includes an LED backlit display, five hours of battery life and Lenovo’s Active Protection System (APS), a feature pioneered on ThinkPad notebooks. Lenovo’s APS technology helps protect the data on the hard drive if the notebook should fall. And if the operating system should crash, users can recover their data at the touch of a button with the One-Key Rescue System1.

IdeaPad Y430 & Y530

The IdeaPad Y430 and Y530 notebooks make mainstream notebooks fun and functional. Available in Bold black or a new Crimson red textured design on the IdeaPad Y430 notebook, consumers can enjoy all the features that make the “Idea” brand unique. Additionally, they may choose between a framed or frameless screen as well as an optional Blu-Ray DVD player2.

IdeaPad Y730

Lenovo is enhancing its popular multimedia notebook, the IdeaPad Y710, to a new level with the IdeaPad Y730 notebook. Models with the Game Zone function now come in Valencia orange, distinguishing them from the mainstream models in Indigo blue. Equipped with the design and functionality shared throughout the IdeaPad line, the notebook sports a frameless screen, touch sensitive multimedia controls, Dolby® Home Theatre, One-Key Rescue System1, VeriFace™ facial recognition, support for HDMI and an optional Blu-Ray DVD player. This notebook sets the trend for style, design and high performance, with models featuring up to two 320 GB hot-swappable hard drives.

Dell was one of the first major vendors to introduce capacitive touch and is now bringing multi-touch capabilities to the Latitude XT. The new capabilities include:

    * Scroll – by placing two fingers on the screen and moving them horizontally or vertically customers can easily navigate in web browsers and productivity applications.
* Zoom – by touching the screen with two fingers and moving them together customers can zoom various content in and out, such as pictures or Web pages.
* Programmable double-tap – customers can program a command, such as launching a Web browser or turning the screen off to save power, that will respond to two taps with two fingers.

Dell’s integration of multi-touch allows customers to use the full real estate of the screen, as opposed to just the touchpad like the Voodoo Envy 133 and Apple MacBook Air, and works with productivity applications they use every day, such as Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer, Google Earth, etc.

The free upgrade is easy to install with a Dell wizard that walks customers through the download process. To see a video demo of multi-touch capabilities on the Latitude XT, go here.

Dell Extends SSD Leadership with Availability of 128 GB Drive at Attractive Price Point

Dell was one of the first major vendors to deliver SSDs to its customers and leads major vendors with the broadest portfolio of client products available with the technology. The new 128 GB SSD starts at $649 and is available tomorrow in the U.S. on Dell Precision and Latitude systems. The drive will be offered on XPS and Alienware systems next week.

The new drive helps solve customer pain points around price and capacity of SSD technology. Customers get double the capacity of Dell’s 64 GB ultra-performance SSD offering for the same price.

SSDs are eight-and-a-half times more shock tolerant1 and have a predicted reliability more than three times that of standard notebook2 hard drives. Dell also offers a 64 GB ultra-performance SSD that delivers up to 22 percent better performance than a 7,200 RPM hard disk drive.3

The Transportation Security Administration called upon manufactures to send in prototype bags to determine if it was possible to make a bag that carries a laptop without obstructing a clear view of the laptop from the X-ray machine. With overwhelming response to the query TSA is moving forward with the project.

TSA begins training their staff to accept the Checkpoint Friendly Bag in the next few months. Travelers allowed to pass through with their bag are those that adhere to the directional uses of the Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag. To ensure that the view of the laptop is clear when passing through the X-ray machine specifications include:

    * No cords pens, pencils or any obstructions in or near the pocket of the laptop
* No metal objects placed on the material where the laptop is housed

Over the next few months luggage manufactures will rush to be the first to create the Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag. Pathfinder Luggage tested two prototype Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bags through X-ray machines nationally and internationally, the result was a clear image of the laptops. Bags conforming to the new standard will be indicated by a Checkpoint Friendly hang tag and logo to be established by the manufacturer.
